Tomorrow

Chances are strong we all know someone who has committed suicide. A beauty queen. A beloved college student. A brother. Chances are even stronger we all know someone who has thought about it - probably a lot of someones - someones we'd never expect. The tipping point between the two is a fine line, I think. And the proverbial straw but a hair's breadth. In all honesty, I've had some bleak days but (so far) none that have drawn me all the way to that brink. Not through any strength of character on my part, just this dogged hope that it's possible for tomorrow to be better than today. Even marginally. And, while I am the furthest from qualified to offer mental health advice, I'm compelled to say this to all my someones: hang on. If today is too much for you to handle, please bear down and concentrate on a different tomorrow. It might be better, it might even be worse, but it will be different. The light will slant through your window at a slightly different angle. The verse you read will have a slightly different meaning. The song you hear will have a slightly different melody. The hurt you feel will have a slightly different intensity. At the very least, there will be six new chances to get the Wordle answer. And the sum of those tiny differentials may be just enough to make a significant difference in how you feel about things. A subtle shift toward a different perspective - a different possibility. Enough to take a gamble on another day. Enough to take the risk of talking to someone about things. Foremost, the someOne who's already been to tomorrow and stands ready to walk there with you no matter how hard the path. Consult a professional counselor. Call a hotline. Getting help is not a sign of weakness. It's the strongest and most courageous thing you will ever do.

From the heart of this bumbling blogger... please please please wait for tomorrow. And if tomorrow feels just like today, try it one more time. And then one more. Selah.
